Sports professionals spend most of the time practising their sport; this involves skills and fitness training. It’s essential to be talented and dedicated, as competition for entry to professional level sport is intense.

The usual entry route is to take part in junior leagues or amateur tournaments, where talents can be displayed. Players may be approached by talent scouts or coaches to attend a trial. Some sports offer apprenticeships.
